Belmont Poet Laureate Monica Korde celebrates the Year of the Dragon with an afternoon of festivities, including a poetry reading featuring youth poet Stella Lee and The Last Hoisan Poets Flo Oy Wong & Nellie Wong.

Belmont Poet Laureate Monica Korde introduced the poetry program with a reading of “Chinese New Year’s Day,” a classic short poem by Wang Anshi, a Song Dynasty poet. Stella Lee, a sixth grader at the Nueva School, read her poems, “The Dime” and “The Experience of Growing Up.” Nellie served up a banquet of American Sentences, and Flo shared her new poem, “Arise.” Nellie and Flo closed the poetry reading with a new collaborative poem written for the New Year, “Loong Nin Loy/Dragon Year Comes.” Belmont Poet Laureate Monica Korde, Flo Oy Wong, Stella Lee and Nellie Wong. After Stella’s reading of her poems, “The Dime” and “The Experience of Growing Up,” Nellie served up a banquet of American Sentences, and Flo shared her new poem, “Arise.” Nellie and Flo closed their poetry reading with a new collaborative poem written for the New Year, “Loong Nin Loy/Dragon Year Comes,” and the event concluded with a celebratory Lion Dance by the Joyous Spring Lion Dance Troupe.
